do you guys ever go to make a tumblr post and then do like seven levels of mental chess to think about how someone could horribly misinterpret your words against you. i was just thinking about saying “can you imagine actually liking maroon 5′s music” and then my brain jumped ahead five days to where some random tumblr user with a url like hagrids-left-nutsack or something comments “maroon 5 is mostly enjoyed by older suburban housewives by saying this you make it very clear you hate the elderly, the working class and women” and i like

well anyway. can you imagine actually liking maroon 5′s music

your friends are your equals. they should not control you, ridicule you, judge you for your decisions or your mistakes… you also should not have to beg your friends to care or show you empathy - caring is the bare minimum. your friends should be uplifting. they should have only good intentions for you. this isn’t to say you won’t have disagreements and arguments. but you should not feel like you must be constantly on the defensive around them. your friends should be “home” for you - a place of comfort and leisure, a place you can be yourself. if you find toxic behaviors exist within your friendships, you can choose to try to work on them or you can leave. not all differences can be settled. sometimes people just aren’t for you. and as one door closes, others open.
